With ARTHUR LUCAN, KITTY McSHANE. Over a fifteen-year period, British comedian Arthur Lucan starred in a series of cinema slapsticks in which he was cast as a character of the opposite sex! That character is Old Mother Riley, a working class Irishwoman with a daughter named Kitty (played throughout the series by Kitty McShane) who finds herself constantly immersed in comical situations. This laugh-a-minute romp finds Old Mother Riley employed as a washerwoman in a tony law firm. The story is set into motion when she "gets the sack," and promptly befriends a penniless young inventor who just so happens to be the estranged son of her now former boss. In order to get her mother rehired, Kitty Riley accepts a date with one of the office executives. This cads intentions are less then honorable, and when he sees that Kitty is unwilling to play ball, he plots to destroy the poor girls life. How do ghosts play into the story? Suffice to say that the cad cooks up a scheme to pilfer the inventors work. This conspiracy involves Old Mother Riley suddenly learning that she has inherited a "haunted" castle. Lucan is simply a riot in drag. He cannot walk through a door or utter a sentence without bringing down the house. His initial appearance on screen is alone worth the price of admission. 74 minutes.
